The Speech Pathology program continues to generate impact at a national and international level, making known the initiatives that have arisen from the processes of innovation, entrepreneurship and research. In the last weeks, six teachers and nine students took part in national and international convergence spaces to talk about this important program from different fields and areas.
The tour begins in Buenos Aires, with the virtual participation of three professors and six students in two presentations, within the framework of the VI Argentine Congress of Dysphagia and Swallowing Disorders. This is the second continuous participation of María Cano Phonoaudiology in this event and it was carried out with the results of research processes arising from an internal call and from the training practice.
Professors Miguel Vargas García and Fernando Delprado Aguirre, accompanied by students Sara Isabel González and Carolina Morales Gómez, presented in e-poster mode the partial results of their research project entitled «Electroglottographic characteristics of normal cough», approved in the sixth internal call for research. For her part, Professor María Isabel Mazo, in the company of Professor Vargas and students Luis Felipe Pardo, Sofía Peña Monje, Edith Daniela Casanova, Vanesa Fernanda Suárez, Manuela Cano Castrillón and Mariana Velázquez García, shared the final results of the practice project called «Characterization of the consistencies of the foods used for the management of dysphagia in the hospitalization services and intensive care unit of the General Hospital of Medellín. In the development of the event, there were more than 40 exhibitors from all over Latin America.
The route to make the program and its actions visible continues in Cali, with the participation of Professor Alexandra Flórez Londoño in the IV International Fair of Innovation in Speech Pathology with the conference called Entrepreneurship as Professional Projection in Speech Pathology. He told the story of a strategy used in the program for the promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation in the subject: Professional Affairs; a strategic resource that is represented every semester at the Speech-Language Pathology Experiences Fair and that has generated more than 10 business ideas from students throughout the year 2022. Together with professor Alexandra, student Ginneth Rossana Hernández participated, with a presentation called FONOPARQUE, which is one of the most attractive business ideas that emerged in the second semester of the present period.
Also, at the María Cano facilities in Medellín, the «Socialization of the academic processes developed within the framework of the subjects: Research Methodology and Epistemology» was carried out, with the aim of sensitizing the student community about the importance of research as a transversal axis and promote events where the advances and achievements of the processes developed in the classroom, related to research, innovation and entrepreneurship, are presented. Activity led by Professor Maryluz Osorio.
This work closes in the city of Bogotá, with the double participation in the IX National and VI International Meeting of Research in Phonoaudiology: Globalization and Sustainable Development: Challenges for Phonoaudiology, where the professors María Tatiana Ramírez and Adriana Marcela Rojas Gil presented themselves as poster speaker and panel expert respectively.
Professor Adriana Rojas was invited as an expert to participate in a discussion about the actions carried out in the inclusive education scenario and analyze their impact on educational quality in the deaf population in higher education. Their participation manages to recognize the experiences that, from different professions, contribute to the reflection on the challenges of the inclusion of signing deaf people in higher education. In this panel of experts, the professor was accompanied by other professional representatives from Colombia and Chile.
The other participation in the event brings recognition, in the first place, in the poster modality for the teacher María Tatiana Ramírez with the work entitled «Care protocol for the elderly from communication and cognition in community settings», emerged of research projects endorsed in an internal call.
Congratulations and thanks to all the teachers and students who raise the flags of María Cano.
