- 29 julio, 2024

The María Cano University Foundation in the capital of Cauca presents a new publication of a scientific article that contributes to the Fisioter Research Group, developed in collaboration with professors and graduates of the María Cano University Foundation, (including a young researcher and innovator from the department of Cauca), as well as an external collaborator. The article, titled «Physical exercise, functional status and quality of life in post-covid-19 adults», addresses relevant topics on post-pandemic health.
Covid-19 is a disease that became a pandemic in 2020, triggering a global public health emergency until 2022, when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the emergency. However, the virus is still present in the population, and more and more are known about the sequelae or manifestations following acute infection, which can become chronic and affect any body system, regardless of the initial severity of the disease (Ahmed et al., 2022).
It is estimated that between 16% and 87% of people can develop persistent covid-19, currently called by the WHO as “Postcovid-19 Condition” (Ettorre et al., 2022).
The Fisioter Research Group has been investigating the disease and its repercussions on people’s health, with special interest in finding solutions for the complex symptomatology that can become so intense that it significantly affects the quality of life of patients. (Dubravka, 2002; Leshchenko & Glushkova, 2022).
Among the strategies with the greatest evidence for managing these symptoms and improving the condition of patients diagnosed with a post-COVID-19 condition is physical exercise (Compagno et al., 2022). This has been shown to be effective against various symptoms in different body systems. Furthermore, health education within exercise prescription plans has become one of the fundamental points, since its purpose is to generate adherence to the program (Gerlis et al., 2022) and raise people’s awareness about healthy habits. that enhance their comprehensive well-being (Halabe & Robledo, 2022).
If you want to know more about the findings of this research, the benefits of exercise in different domains and the conclusions of the research team, consult the article in Perspectivas Magazine, 9(1), of the Faculty of Education, Arts and Humanities of the University Francisco de Paula Santander from San José de Cúcuta, indexed in Category C.
