Phonoaudiology

Speech-Language Therapy is a profession in the field of health that deals with human communication, its disorders, and variations; focused on the areas of audition, language, speech, voice, and oral and pharyngeal function, which can be affected by biological, psychological, or social causes that affect people’s communicative welfare and life quality.

In this regard, the speech therapist is constituted as the ideal professional for its approach due to the scientific and deep knowledge of human communication as a field of personal and social development. His / Her actions are intended to identifying population communicative needs and the evaluation, diagnosis, and intervention of the disorders and alterations of communication in fields like education, social welfare, health and corporate; he / she is also a manager of projects and research works that contribute to individual, community and professional development.

    Applicant profile

    Young high school graduate, interested in understanding the human communication process in different situations and contexts.

    His / Her actions are aimed at:

    • Preventing communication disorders and promoting communicative health through the administration of programs that guide and educate the community, considering the current comprehensive health care public policies.
    • Evaluating communicative disorders and determining the specific diagnoses,
    • Therapeutic intervention for people with communication problems,
    • Advising educators, family and interested people to enable their active participation in the prevention and care of communication difficulties;
    • Management of social projects in accordance with the existing regulatory provisions for the pursuit of the profession.
