Prevention campaign at the Neiva headquarters

Breast cancer is the abnormal and disorderly proliferation of malignant breast cells that leads to the uncontrolled growth of a tumor within the breast which has the capacity to invade other organs. It is considered the leading cause of illness and death from cancer among Colombian women; it also occurs in smaller numbers in men. Breast cancer was the cancer with the highest incidence, prevalence and mortality of cancer in the department of Huila in people over 18 years of age, with an incidence rate of 16 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the prevalence rate in 311 cases per per 100,000 inhabitants and a mortality rate of 21.33 per 100,000 inhabitants.
In commemoration of the World Day of the Fight against Breast Cancer, the Neiva headquarters, awareness activities were carried out, by public health students, aimed at the academic community and with the participation of the teacher Gladys Tamayo Perdomo , member of the group of Experts in Oncological Physiotherapy, Palliative Care and HIV (EGOPHI) of ASCOFI, who shared recommendations on the approach to the oncological population and the work of physiotherapy in the first level of care for said population, as well as activities in clinical practice scenarios for patients and users, teaching the importance of early detection, in order to improve the prognosis and survival of breast cancer cases, which continues to be the cornerstone of the fight against this disease.
The María Cano University Foundation, united and committed to a healthier community, carried out awareness raising and educational activities with all the members of the university community so that they become replicators of the information before their relationship groups.
