Publication of an investigative article for the knowledge of the community

The ARETÉ journal is an interdisciplinary scientific publication, aimed at disseminating knowledge related to research on the processes of human communication, its disorders and upper aerodigestive functions, in various settings and populations. In the month of July 2022, he published the article called «Speech Therapy in Education: Teaching experiences for the creation of a university spin-off». Researcher Mary Luz Osorio Montoya and graduates of the speech therapy program Sara Mariana Acevedo Molina, Luisa María Valencia Quintero and Diana Marcela Dávila Díez participated in this work, in cooperation with Professor Jhon Fredy Quintero Uribe, professor at the Santiago de Cali University.
The article aims to demonstrate the feasibility of creating a university spin-off that offers speech therapy services to solve the communication difficulties that occur in the school environment, both in students and in teachers and administrators. Methodology: This was a qualitative study with a mixed research design, in which the results were obtained from a documentary review and the application of two data collection instruments to professionals from some public and private educational institutions in Medellín.
The results showed that teachers do not fully recognize the functions of the speech therapist in the educational sector, and likewise, it was shown that the participation that has been had in the processes carried out by this professional in educational institutions has not been the expected; the teachers reported identifying various difficulties in the students and in themselves, related to communication; In addition, they recognized the importance and need to include the speech therapist in educational institutions.
After the work carried out, it is concluded that in the educational sector the communication difficulties presented by students, teachers and administrators are evident, however, in these institutions the speech therapy service has not yet been integrated, therefore, it is not possible to dimension the scope of the speech therapist to benefit the school population. The teaching experiences confirmed the great value of forming a spin-off that offers speech therapy services to the educational community, provides solutions to needs and complements the teaching work.
This article is a product that provides visibility to the FONOTEC group of the Speech Therapy program and to the María Cano University Foundation at the national and international level. The article is expected to be part of high-impact databases, favoring the visibility of the research group in the national and international context. It becomes permanent reference material for different professionals who are interested in the educational sector. Likewise, it presents an innovative vision for research speech therapists who wish to undertake in higher education institutions.
It should be noted that some authors establish the significance of scientific publications for the social and economic development of societies, as well as for scientific research institutions, especially universities. It is for the above that María Cano becomes increasingly visible through high-impact publications.
