Burnout syndrome or “burnout syndrome” is defined as chronic stress related to job demands and is characterized by the triad of emotional exhaustion, low personal achievement and depersonalization; This usually appears very frequently among health professionals, teachers and social workers. In 2019, the World Health Organization recognized burnout as a disease, which will be included in the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-11), which began on January 1 of this year. The headquarters of the María Cano University Foundation located in the capital of the Department of Huila, in an inter-institutional work, with the National Open and Distance University; participated in the production of a book that addresses burnout syndrome, which affected some teachers during the covid-19 pandemic.
The book is divided into two important moments; the first focuses on explaining the instruments to assess fatigue in teachers from the perspective of Byung-Chul Han’s philosophy; the second moment relates topics such as the challenges of the public university and how they were faced, the challenges of education, challenges and difficulties that arose when using technological means.
María Cano continues to consolidate itself as an institution committed to high quality, strengthening ties with the region’s universities and continuing with its work of making contributions for the benefit of society, this time showing the importance of paying attention to the conditions of health that affect the physical and mental area.

Professor Piedad Rocío Lerma Castaño is a physiotherapist from the University of Pamplona, a specialist and master in neurorehabilitation from the Autonomous University of Manizales, a doctoral student in Cognitive Sciences at the Autonomous University of Manizales. He has care experience in the management of children with cerebral palsy and other neuromotor disorders, adults with neurological sequelae with 10 years of experience in university teaching and research with the physiotherapy program of the María Cano University Foundation, Neiva, member of the Fisioter group, classified in category A, evaluator peer recognized by Minciencias and categorized as Junior Researcher.
