Publication of TOP article for the SUMAR group
- 4 marzo, 2021

Researchers Natalia Isabel Jaramillo Gómez and Ricardo León Sánchez Arenas from the SUMAR research group, attached to the María Cano Business Administration program, together with researchers from the National University – UNAL – and the Cooperative University of Colombia – UCC – have managed to produce a ceramic material suitable for 3D printing that simulates the characteristics of human bone. It was found that this material encourages bone regeneration in vitro in cell cultures of stem cells obtained from adipose tissue through liposuction, which were directed to an osteogenic lineage.
This work is part of the Researcher Natalia Jaramillo’s Doctoral Thesis entitled «Development of a sacffold for bone regeneration through 3D printing of a ceramic paste composed of a mixture of calcium phosphate and bioglass». Thanks to the important advances for society of this research, as well as the challenges of transformations at the biological level and the rigorous experimental design of this research, which was accompanied by the Researcher Ricardo Sánchez, it was presented in December in the event organized by the Material Research Society – MRS – of Cambridge University, United Kingdom, with an oral presentation by the same researchers.
MRS is an organization of materials researchers around the world that promotes communication for the advancement of high-impact research and interdisciplinary materials technology to improve the quality of life. Thanks to the great impact of this research and the promising results, the prestigious and renowned Springer publishing house published the Article resulting from this presentation. This TOP-type product in the Colciencias measurement model, highlights the SUMAR group’s research process and represents a source of pride for the Business Administration program and for the institution.
