In a formal ceremony held at the Medellín headquarters, the María Cano University Foundation paid tribute to the memory of the professor, researcher, academic, business strategist and planning advisor, Dr. Humberto Serna Gómez, who died on Sunday, July 30, 2023. The book «Humberto Serna Gómez: Testimony of a Teacher» written by Mr. Esteban Cruz Niño was presented, in which the life of the teacher is remembered from his birth in the municipality of El Santuario, his studies, his life in Medellín and his Work experience at a regional, national and international level in different organizations and representing Colombia.

In the tribute, the María Cano Award – Posthumous Tribute, in the Life and Work category, was also presented to Dr. Serna, exalting his dedication and invaluable contributions to the quality of the academic processes of the María Cano University Foundation. For his career, experience and knowledge dedicated to investigative work, which transformed the individual and social conditions of many communities and with the great satisfaction of achieving recognition from the Ministry of Sciences, Technology and Innovation. The award was received by the founder and wife of the late professor, Norela Hernández de Serna.

The president of the Superior Council, Ligia González Betancur, highlighted during the recognition that Dr. Humberto Serna Gómez was always characterized by a life at the service of education, and the community, a man of immense human qualities, for his entrepreneurial character, dreamer and innovator, who always distinguished himself for his values ​​and principles, who today leaves a legacy and a path for high quality in the María Cano University Foundation. For this reason, he is deserving of this award as he represents the institutional philosophy and actions of María de los Ángeles Cano Márquez, as a social leader of Colombia.
