Research and experiences in academic and scientific reading and writing

With the aim of creating a space that would contribute to speech therapy research in reading and writing at the national level, this virtual national meeting was held on September 8. The event was aimed at practicing and training speech therapists linked to this area both academically and scientifically, as well as people with an interest in the research trends of speech therapy in this field.
The central conferences were presented by special guests with great recognition on the subject. On the one hand, Rita Flórez Romero from the National University of Colombia spoke about production and reproduction processes in the digital age and its relationship with training programs and professional performance of speech therapists in Colombia: reading, writing and thinking. On the other hand, Elizabeth Narváez Cardona with Luz Angela García Rojas from the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente, presented their presentation on the Experiences of professional writing in Speech Therapy: curricular implications.
During the event, 3 interventions were presented by representatives of the San Buenaventura University, the Universidad del Valle and the Universidad del Cauca. The presentation of these was in charge of their authors Mg. Claudia de la Rosa Arce, Speech Therapist Angela María Escobar and Magister Adriana Casas and Diana Prado. The topics addressed were:
- Speech and language practice in higher education: the experience of the Bonaventurian Reading and Writing Center.
- Support strategies in academic reading and writing for a university student with participation restrictions.
- Articulation with Middle Education Institutions: a bet from the writing center to reduce the academic gap.
The event ended with a panel of experts moderated by Dr. Pilar Mirely Chois Lenis, a professor at the University of Cauca. Claudia de la Rosa Arce from the University of San Buenaventura, Catalina, Marín Altamirano from the Santiago de Cali University, Lina Isabel Andrade from the Metropolitan University, Marisol Moreno Angarita from the National University, Ana Carmenza Romero from the Colombian School participated in this activity. of Rehabilitation, Sonia Gladys Bernal Rodríguez from the Ibero-American University Corporation and Ángela Martínez Rodríguez from the Universidad del Rosario. This was the opportunity to discuss the promotion for the development and learning of reading and writing in speech therapy students, the curricular contributions to this area of intervention, the possibilities of formative practice and the pertinent curricular adjustments for each academic program.
The event was organized by the Speech Therapy Programs of the María Cano University Foundation, the Universidad del Cauca and the Universidad del Valle, which were represented by teachers Héctor Iván Guerrero Jiménez, Pilar Mirely Chois Lenis and Karina Alejandra Arenas Hernández, respectively.
The general balance of this meeting is considered to be of high representation both for the organizing institutions and for the speech therapy profession, since a high impact was achieved on different areas at the national and international level. Thanks to the publicity and the joint work of the academic committee, the communications area and the LEAMOS Reading and Writing Center Team, it was possible to register more than 360 participants, of which 264 were certified who complied with full attendance at the event and completion of the evaluation survey.
