As part of the research activities of the Fisioter Group of the María Cano University Foundation, in cooperation with the GRID group of the EAFIT University, during the IMECE Congress of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering – ASME – the research paper «The Effect of Physical Activity on Residual Limb Volume, Comfort, and Gait Symmetry of Transfemoral Amputees «result of work with the amputee population with disabilities.
The main objective of the article was to determine the changes in the volume of the stump of transfemoral amputees victims of the armed conflict, who were subjected in different periods to physical exercise in days of 20-30-40 minutes, to test the influence of this activity on the maturation of the residual limb and to conclude how these changes influence the gait pattern by analyzing the gait symmetry in the study participants.
This work was developed by the researchers Fanny Valencia Legarda and Alejandro Uribe Ríos from the Physiotherapy program of the María Cano University Foundation; professor Elizabeth Rendon Vélez and master’s student Sara Salazar from the department of product design engineering at EAFIT University.
