Specialization Program in Speech-Language Pathology in Critical Care Hosts Prominent International Expert

Fundación Universitaria María Cano continues to strengthen its leadership in advanced health sciences education through the participation of Jimy Alvarado Meza, a renowned speech-language pathologist and researcher, who joins the “Speech-Language Pathology Assessment in Critical Care” module as a visiting professor in the Specialization in Critical Care Speech-Language Pathology at the Medellín campus.
The presence of this distinguished academic enhances the postgraduate training processes of the program and reaffirms the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, continuous knowledge updating, and the integration of national and international experts who contribute to the development of highly specialized competencies in complex healthcare settings.
Jimy Alvarado Meza is a speech-language pathologist, specialist in University Pedagogical Practice, holder of a Master’s degree in Human Communication Disorders, and a Junior Researcher recognized by Colombia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Minciencias). Throughout his career, he has become one of Latin America’s leading experts in the clinical management of dysphagia, participating as a speaker and workshop facilitator at scientific events across the region and contributing to the dissemination of specialized knowledge in swallowing assessment and treatment.
Among his most significant contributions is the implementation of videofluoroscopic swallowing studies in several healthcare institutions throughout Colombia, as well as the publication of the book Manual for Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Assessment, considered a reference work for professionals and researchers in the field. His academic, clinical, and research experience represents a valuable contribution to the training of students enrolled in the specialization program.
The participation of highly qualified experts strengthens the capacity of future specialists to respond to the challenges faced by patients in critical care units, where communication, swallowing, and quality of life are essential components of comprehensive healthcare.
