Speech-Language pathology that transforms lives
- 4 septiembre, 2025

As part of a noteworthy social outreach initiative, the external consultation interns from the Speech-Language Pathology program at Fundación Universitaria María Cano, Neiva campus, led an educational event focused on nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits, under the guidance of speech-language pathologist Yuli Karina Cultid Erira.
The activity, carried out in collaboration with the Fundación de Servicios Especializados San Miguel Arcángel S.A.S and with the participation of the Center for Education for Work and Human Development CESALUD, aimed primarily to raise community awareness about the importance of proper nutrition and the adoption of healthy practices from a speech-language pathology perspective.
The event focused on oral functions, a key area in the field of speech-language pathology. Topics such as chewing, swallowing, breathing, and speaking were addressed—processes that are directly linked to general health and the proper development of children, youth, and adults.
Through educational, preventive, and guidance-based activities, the future professionals not only shared knowledge but also provided practical tools to help improve attendees’ quality of life. The event included talks, workshops, and personalized counseling sessions, ensuring the active participation of both regular patients at the San Miguel Arcángel Foundation and members of the general community.
These types of initiatives reaffirm the commitment of Fundación Universitaria María Cano to the comprehensive education of its students, as well as its direct engagement with the surrounding community. Moreover, it highlights the capacity of the Speech-Language Pathology program to make a meaningful impact in key areas of public health through collaborative and interdisciplinary work.
«These activities allow us to connect with the community, apply what we’ve learned in the classroom, and contribute to health promotion from our field of training,» stated one of the participating interns.
With initiatives like this, the university and its partners strengthen their role as active agents in the construction of healthy environments, demonstrating how higher education can have a real and positive impact on society.
