First inter-institutional meeting for students of speech therapy practice: «Successful experiences in telepractic»

In the framework of the Health Emergency due to covid-19, the María Cano University Foundation accepted Ministerial Directive No. 4 of March 22, 2020, where guidelines were given to give continuity to the academic programs with qualified registration in face-to-face mode , which indicates that Higher Education Institutions, exceptionally, will be able to develop academic activities assisted by the tools offered by Information Technologies and ICT Communications, guaranteeing the quality conditions recognized in the qualified registry. In this line, the programs of the Faculty of Health Sciences gave continuity to the activities related to training practices, adopting the Telehealth strategy, regulated by Law 1419 of 2010, seeking to guarantee the provision of health services in a manner timely to the population that, for geographic or economic reasons, cannot easily access them; and in this way contribute to compliance with mandatory isolation.
Considering the foregoing, within the framework of the activity for the Closing of Speech Therapy Practice of the María Cano University Foundation, the First inter-institutional meeting of speech therapy practice students is created: «Successful experiences in telepractice», a space for the exchange of experiences of Universities that offer the speech therapy program in different regions. For this event, the Universities were invited: University of Sucre, University of Cauca and Colombian School of Rehabilitation ECR, which allows to have a national vision of the advances of the speech therapy profession in the country.
The activity took place on Monday, November 9 at 1:30 p.m. at 5:00 p.m. Each University, through its students, presented three significant experiences of tele – practice carried out in the period 2020-II. The experiences were:
- Educational Practice LEAMOS María Cano University Foundation. Speaker: Juliza Tatiana Suarez Patarroyo.
- Practice: Educational – ICBF Francisco José de Caldas Children’s Home-Universidad del Cauca. Speaker: Tania Milena Guerrero Chaves.
- Practical Educational Institution Nuestra Señora de Fátima – Universidad del Cauca. Speaker: Maira Alejandra Enríquez Imbacuan.
- Social Welfare Practice – Los Pisingos Foundation Internship Colombian School of Rehabilitation. Speaker: Ashly Melisa Patiño Silva – Leidy Lorena Ruiz Urrego.
- Practice: Good Start Social Welfare – Versalles – 8 hours – María Cano University Foundation. Speaker: Yaridi Angélica Valencia Ramírez.
- Practice: Social and Community Welfare Family Environment-University of Sucre. Speaker: Cristian Zúñiga.
- Disability Practice Internship: Project Let’s learn and enjoy reading together – Cepytin Foundation – Colombian School of Rehabilitation. Speaker: Carolyn Daniela Duarte Villamil – Karen Alejandra Ortiz Aguilera.
- Practice: Clinics II, Social Welfare and Disability presentation areas – Fundación San Rafael -Universidad de Sucre. Speaker: Ester María Córdoba Pérez.
- Practice: Disability – The Rehabilitation Committee – Create United Foundation – María Cano University Foundation. Speaker: Luisa Fernanda Osorio Gutiérrez.
- Practice: Professionals – Educational and Clinical Area – Francisco José de Caldas Educational Institution – Hospital Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes – Corozal -University of Sucre. Speaker: María Emma Guardo.
- Practice: Speech Laboratory Clinic- Universidad del Cauca. Speaker: Laura Camila Rosero Legarda.
- Practice: Research Internship: FisioFonAPP: Technological development in mental health for post-covid-19 patient – Colombian School of Rehabilitation. Speakers: Esteban Galindo (Speech Therapy) – Kelly Penagos (Physiotherapy).
- Practice: Occupational Health and Safety Program – Voice Conservation Program – María Cano University Foundation. Speaker: Laura Elena Sánchez Muñoz.
The event was broadcast through the María Cano Oficial Youtube Channel and Teams. This type of space favors the exchange of academic and research experiences of speech therapy students and allows the strengthening of cooperation ties between universities.
The speech therapy programs of the María Cano University Foundation, the University of Sucre, the University of Cauca and the Colombian School of Rehabilitation ECR thank the students, professors and administrators for their involvement in this event and praise their capacity for innovation and contribution to speech therapy in Colombia.
