Teachers from the Cali campus publish a new scientific article
- 27 julio, 2022

We feel deeply proud because professors from María Cano, attached to the Cali campus, in a collaborative work to explain in detail the process of contagion of the virus known as covid-19 in the child population, published the article «SARS-COV- 2 in paediatrics: Approach to transmission, pathophysiology and hypothesis of clinical presentation» in the Journal of Respiratory Pathology of the Neumomadrid Foundation, which compiles and publishes scientific articles aimed at health personnel linked to the care of respiratory patients.
In this article, written by professors José Luis Estela Zape, Leydin Carolina Vásquez Henao and Iris Lamar Zarama Tobar in the company of professor Daniela Arturo Terranova from Universidad del Valle; performs the study of the key characteristics of SARS-COV-2 in pediatrics such as: acute lung injury; acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS); multi-organ dysfunction; SARS-CoV-2 and severe pneumonia, in relation to the child population. This study is carried out in order to describe the contagion process, from the transmission of the virus to the clinical manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 presented in the pediatric area, to conclude if the children present characteristics and symptoms different from those they present. adults in the presence of covid-19.
To propose the hypotheses related to this case study, it was necessary to review around 614 publications in academic databases such as PubMed (a search engine that allows you to consult content from a variety of scientific journals), LILACS (a database of information for health sciences) and OVID-MEDLINE (the most important database of the National Library of Medicine, covering the fields of medicine), a subtraction of the information that was relevant for the investigation was carried out, selecting scientific articles and other publications, evidencing a lower incidence, prevalence, hospitalizations and admission of children to intensive care units, so the purpose of the scientific article is to highlight the factors that apparently cause a lower frequency of children with SARS-COV-2 .
