Fundación Universitaria María Cano, Neiva campus, continues to strengthen student learning through experiences that connect academic training with real-world professional practice. On this occasion, seventh-semester Physiotherapy students participated in the National U-15 Futsal Qualifying Tournament, during the match between the Huila and Bolívar teams, gaining firsthand exposure to competitive sports environments and the interdisciplinary work required in high-performance settings.

The experience allowed future physiotherapists to observe and support processes related to athlete preparation, monitoring, and performance follow-up, helping them better understand the essential role physiotherapy plays in injury prevention, performance optimization, and physical recovery. This practical setting strengthened competencies related to clinical observation, movement analysis, and decision-making in sports contexts.

One of the most significant aspects of the activity was the incorporation of technology applied to sports performance analysis. Students were introduced to GPS monitoring systems used to track athletes during competition, providing valuable information about movement patterns, physical demands, workload, and performance indicators.

Exposure to these technological tools enabled students to understand how innovation is transforming modern sports science, supporting more informed decisions related to training design, injury prevention, and athlete development.

The activity was guided by professors Frank Castro, Diana Montealegre, and Juan José Perdomo, who facilitated the integration of academic knowledge, professional practice, and emerging technological trends within the field of human movement sciences.

Through initiatives like this, Fundación Universitaria María Cano reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive, innovative, and industry-connected education, preparing students with the skills and experiences needed to excel in high-performance sports and other professional settings.
