The Leamos program is strengthened at the Neiva headquarters
- 2 noviembre, 2023

With the purpose of encouraging students to love reading, a strategy arises that contributes to promoting reading in students of the Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy programs, thanks to Professor Piedad Roció Lerma, who creates the first reading club with her first semester students of the subject Epistemology in their free time, as an extracurricular activity, which generates awareness in students regarding the practice of group reading. Good practices multiply with the support of Professor Gladys Tamayo Perdomo, who creates a second reading club from her Disability subject, as well as from the Introduction to Speech Therapy course led by Professor Mercy Cecilia Torres.
These strategies strengthen the institutional program «Let’s Read» which aims to promote processes related to academic reading and writing. The work will make visible in the academic community the motivation to improve their reading skills, through meetings that are held at scheduled times with the university community so that they can comply with their study plans.
Among the selected books are: “How do we learn? and The Four Pillars, with which education can enhance the talents of the brain, both works by the author Stanislas Dehaene, a recognized expert in the study of the cerebral bases of the main human intellectual operations; We also work with the book: What the best university professors do, by Author Ken Bain, director of the Research Academy for University Learning and professor of history at Montclair State University, New Jersey.
In this space, each student of the María Cano University Foundation lives the experience of reading in public, analyzing reading comprehension, measuring the learning of new vocabulary, checking spelling and grammar, among others. This initiative encourages students from different semesters and campus programs to join reading clubs to expand knowledge and culture.
