Work in the Tatacoa Desert
- 14 junio, 2024

In an educational and environmental initiative, the students of the Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy courses of the María Cano University Foundation at the Neiva campus, who are studying the subject of Environmental Management, took a field trip to the Tropical Dry Forest of La Tatacoa. This visit, carried out in the municipality of Villavieja, had the main objective of identifying and studying the diversity of ecosystems present in the department of Huila, as well as raising awareness about the importance of the preservation and conservation of these natural spaces.
The La Tatacoa Tropical Dry Forest is one of the most biodiverse and unique areas in the region, known for its desert landscape and rich variety of flora and fauna. During the outing, the students had the opportunity to visualize the natural environment, make direct observations and participate in practical astronomical activities that allowed them to better understand the ecological dynamics of the place.
Through the guided tour, students also analyzed the threats facing the Tropical Dry Forest, such as deforestation, climate change and agricultural expansion. This knowledge is essential to raise awareness among young people about the need to implement sustainable practices and act as agents of change in their future professions.
The trip to the Tropical Dry Forest of La Tatacoa reinforces the commitment of the María Cano University Foundation to the comprehensive training of its students, promoting not only academic knowledge, but also social and environmental responsibility. The Institution will continue to promote this type of activities, convinced that environmental education is key to a sustainable future.
