Presentation Specialization in Sport Psychology

In the Fundadores auditorium of the María Cano University Foundation, in the city of Medellín, the Specialization in Sports Psychology was launched, a program that received its Qualified Registration from the Ministry of National Education in December 2021. María Cano has set very ambitious goals related to its academic offer and quality, therefore, presenting this program to society is a very important achievement that shows its commitment to meet the needs of different contexts and broaden the knowledge base of psychological discipline especially in this field. The event included a discussion between professional experts on the subject, such as Lina María Orrego Ramírez, Psychologist, Master in Sports Psychology, has worked in the area of sports psychology for several years, fulfilling roles in entities such as the Colombian Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sport, Coldeportes Nacional and various leagues and clubs; the Olympic athlete Mónica Saray Arango Estrada, who in addition to being an athlete in synchronized swimming, is a psychologist; and Olympic athlete Jorge Antonio Enríquez Noreña, archery athlete and member of the Colombian Archers Federation.
The discussion was moderated by the physical therapist and graduate of María Cano, Juan Diego Cañas Marulanda, a member of the Atlético Nacional technical team, managing to guide the activity towards the approach of psychology in sport and allowing to know the experience and importance, both from athletes, as from the professional responsibility of the psychologist in sport.
The María Cano University Foundation offers the first postgraduate program in Specialization in Sport Psychology under face-to-face and virtual modality in Colombia, in accordance with Law 30 of 1992, this postgraduate course enables the deepening and improvement of skills of Evaluation and Psychological Intervention oriented to physical and sports contexts, with emphasis on two fundamental pillars: 1. Promotion of physical activity, health and quality of life and 2. Psychological processes related to sports initiation and performance. At the same time, it emphasizes interdisciplinary work, recognizing the contribution of applied sciences to physical activity and sports, such as sports training, sports medicine, physiotherapy and nutrition, among others.
