The Ordinary General Assembly of the Colombian Association of Higher Education Institutions – ACIET was held, whose objective was to attend to the union agenda that contributes to the progress and strengthening of higher education in the country. The session was attended by the affiliated institutions, who actively participated in its development, in compliance with the Statute and based on the information provided, such as: the management reports of the board of directors, the management report of the executive management and the financial and economic information of the fiscal period 2022.

The day began with the installation by Dr. Hugo Alberto Valencia Porras, President of ACIET, who mentioned the urgent action before the national government, to review the projection and scope of the public policy of free education. Because public HEIs demand resources that allow them to offer optimal quality education, and because the State cannot ignore the needs of low-income students in private HEIs, nor ignore that these private institutions have historically been allies of coverage and commitment government to provide higher education with equity and quality.

The meeting had spaces of an academic nature, among them: the Conversation with the Director of Higher Education Quality, José Ignacio Morales Huetio, who mentioned the current challenges in terms of higher education public policy, likewise highlighted the work that was has been brewing in response to resolution 2265 of February 15, 2023, which modifies resolution 15178 of August 2, 2022 and repeals resolutions 15224 of August 24, 2020, 21759 of November 19, 2020 and 20600 of November 2020, on regulatory provisions on qualified registration.

Likewise, the conversation with the Coordinator of the National Accreditation Council, María Piedad Marín, who addressed the issue of the New CNA vision in the program and institutional accreditation processes.

Finally, there was a discussion space with the Coordinator of the Coordinators’ Room of the National Intersectoral Commission for Quality Assurance in Higher Education – CONACES, Kenny Jesús García, who addressed the issue of articulation of administrative processes to streamline procedures. of qualified records.

ACIET advances in the articulation and construction of these issues that are part of the regional and national agenda, which are integrated into reflections, analysis and proposals in policies such as the expansion of coverage, regionalization, closing gaps in higher education and the insurance system of quality, which can contribute to institutional and sector strengthening.

One of the aspects to highlight in the development of the General Assembly was the election of the new Board of Directors and Regional Vice-Presidencies responsible for the orientation of the Association during the period 2023-2025.

In this sense, nine (9) main members and nine (9) substitute members were elected who, added to the election of the Regional Vice-Presidencies, begin a new period of strengthening and union achievements. It is worth mentioning that, at the close of the session, the re-election of the National President and Vice President of the Association was ratified, as follows:

National President: Dr. Hugo Alberto Valencia Porras, Rector of the María Cano University Foundation.

National Vice President: Dr. Sandra Patricia Valencia Zuluaga, Rector of the Professional Drawing Academy Foundation – FADP.
