- 9 mayo, 2024

The I International Asthma Day Symposium was held in the city of Cali, a milestone in the inter-institutional collaboration between the Hospital Universitario del Valle «Evaristo García» E.S.E, the Santiago de Cali University and the María Cano University Foundation, Cali headquarters. . Under the coordination of teacher José Luis Estela Zape, this event brought together an outstanding academic and professional community committed to the fight against asthma.
The symposium had the notable participation of experts from different institutions, such as Leonardo Arzayus Patiño, Julián Rivera Mota, Stefanie Tonguino Rosero, Alejandro Segura Ordoñez, Héctor Yesid Jiménez Moreno and José Luis Estela Zape. These experts came together in a joint effort to address the most urgent challenges in the clinical manifestations, diagnosis and comprehensive management of asthma, sharing knowledge and experiences that enriched the presentations.
One of the central points of the symposium was the importance of staying updated in the approach to this chronic disease, based on the latest international guidelines, such as those provided by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA 2024). These guidelines, supported by expert consensus and the most recent scientific evidence, represent a fundamental pillar for effective and evidence-based clinical practice.
In addition to promoting professional updating, the symposium was notable for its focus on asthma awareness and its implications for public health and the clinical setting. The active participation of more than 250 health professionals and students in related areas created an enriching space for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices in the management and prevention of asthma.
The 1st International Asthma Day Symposium not only served as a platform for academic updating, but also stood as a call to action to improve care and awareness about this important respiratory disease. Its impact transcended institutional boundaries, inspiring a renewed commitment to excellence in the care of asthmatic patients and the search for innovative solutions to combat this disease globally.
