The Popayán headquarters of the María Cano University Foundation welcomes the new Cohort VI of the Specialization in Public Health, ratifying the institutional commitment to the comprehensive training of health professionals who lead social transformations. The population and epidemiological transition challenges health systems to implement cutting-edge intervention strategies that respond to the needs of the environment and are operationalized through intersectoral and intercultural actions with a focus on social determination.

The Public Health Specialization program is aimed at professionals in the different disciplines belonging to the health area; Future graduates will be trained to contribute to the well-being of populations, with a focus on equity and social determination. In addition, they will be able to analyze the health situation, formulate, implement and evaluate health-related programs and projects, from the coordination in various organizations of the S.G.S.S.S, especially from the territorial health directorates, I.P.S and E.P.S.

Integrate and direct intersectoral actions for the evaluation of the health situation, for the implementation of the Primary Health Care strategy and convene the different actors, as an essential condition to achieve the sustainable development objectives and to address the fundamental causes of health as defined by the WHO Commission on Social Determinants of Health.

Work at different levels of care, institutions and sectors of the health system to operationalize the Public Health Management Model and Public Health Plan for Collective Interventions and actively participate in the planning and evaluation of the Primary Health Care strategy.

In this sense, the Public Health Specialist of the María Cano University Foundation will have powers for the evaluation of the health situation, the formulation, management and implementation of public health policies and public health interventions, according to the local, national jurisdiction. and internationally from various organizations of the S.G.S.S.S.
