- 27 febrero, 2026
The Fundación Universitaria María Cano officially presented the Specialization in Critical Care Speech-Language Pathology during an academic event held at the Medellín campus and broadcast live via Teams to different regions across the country. The event served to showcase the scope and impact of this new graduate program for the healthcare sector.
The Specialization in Critical Care Speech-Language Pathology aims to train professionals with social commitment and strong scientific, procedural, and ethical criteria for decision-making in speech-language pathology interventions within highly complex hospital services. The program seeks to ensure that specialists contribute to communicative well-being and the quality of life of individuals, groups, and populations with critical medical conditions.
Graduates of this specialization at María Cano will be distinguished by their critical thinking, problem-solving skills, social commitment, and glocal vision, combined with an entrepreneurial and innovative mindset. Their training will enable them to assess, diagnose, and treat communicative and oral-pharyngeal disorders in patients across the lifespan who are admitted to critical care units, using advanced instrumentation and providing specialized counseling and consulting services.
Specialists may work in clinical settings within critical care units of various levels—intensive, intermediate, chronic, and palliative—serving neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations. They will also be equipped to formulate and develop research projects and to teach in Speech-Language Pathology and related programs, as well as to lead administrative and management processes for speech-language pathology services in public and private institutions.
With this academic initiative, presented from its campus in Medellín, María Cano reaffirms its commitment to educating entrepreneurial and innovative specialists, advancing knowledge transfer, and promoting humanized healthcare services, thereby strengthening comprehensive care in critical care units and contributing to the transformation of people’s quality of life.
