- 20 marzo, 2026
Fundación Universitaria María Cano, through its research group FISIOTER, has been granted its third invention patent by Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, titled “Mobile and Foldable System to Assist Human Mobility,” reinforcing its commitment to innovation in the field of health.
This invention consists of a walker-type device that integrates a tilting, adjustable, and foldable system, designed to adapt to the user’s body and facilitate transport. Additionally, it incorporates gait monitoring variables, strengthening rehabilitation processes and improving clinical follow-up.
This technological development is the result of a collaborative effort between Fundación Universitaria María Cano, EAFIT University, and the National Learning Service (SENA) through Tecnoparque, which provided technical support and technological guidance for the system’s development.
This inter-institutional collaboration enabled the integration of knowledge from multiple disciplines, including Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Design, and Physiotherapy, consolidating an interdisciplinary approach aimed at creating innovative solutions for people’s well-being.
Key contributors to this project include Fanny Valencia Legarda, Associate Research Professor in the Physiotherapy Program at the Medellín campus; Elizabeth Rendón Vélez, Professor at EAFIT University; and Camilo Andrés Páramo Velásquez, Tecnoparque expert in engineering and design.
With this achievement, Fundación Universitaria María Cano reaffirms its commitment to applied research, technological innovation, and the development of solutions that positively impact quality of life, strengthening its position as a leader in knowledge generation for society.
