Pre-Internship Session Strengthens Early Training in Speech-Language Pathology
- 4 mayo, 2026
Fundación Universitaria María Cano, Neiva campus, conducted the second pre-internship session for the Speech-Language Pathology program, an academic initiative aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of professional practice from the early stages of their education. The activity brought together first-, eighth-, and ninth-semester students, creating a collaborative environment in which first-semester students were introduced to the professional role of speech-language pathologists in real-world contexts.

During the session, advanced students shared their experiences across different areas of practice, addressing key aspects related to assessment, intervention, and support in communication and language processes. This exchange fostered collaborative learning, integration across cohorts, and a progressive recognition of the professional role. Beyond knowledge sharing, initiatives like this contribute to the development of an early professional identity, enabling students to understand the relevance of their training in relation to real-world needs and the challenges of the health sector.

The pre-internship session thus emerges as a key pedagogical strategy, bridging theory and practice while strengthening essential competencies such as communication, clinical observation, and critical thinking from the very beginning of the academic journey. Through actions like this, Fundación Universitaria María Cano reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive education, connecting academic learning with professional realities and promoting the development of future speech-language pathologists with a strong human, ethical, and social perspective.
