María Cano Strengthens the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence
- 26 mayo, 2026
In a joint effort to promote safe, equitable, and discrimination-free educational spaces, Fundación Universitaria María Cano, Neiva campus, welcomed representatives from ICETEX, who, in partnership with SMART, carried out an awareness-raising session focused on the prevention and mitigation of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The activity brought together a broad participation of students, faculty members, and administrative staff, with the main objective of making visible the different manifestations of gender-based violence, challenging behaviors that are often normalized in everyday life, and providing tools for the early identification of risk factors both inside and outside the university environment.

During the session, representatives from ICETEX and facilitators from SMART emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional and community support networks as a key strategy for the prevention and response to this type of violence. They also presented the institution’s existing support pathways, safe reporting mechanisms, and psychosocial support strategies aimed at guaranteeing the rights and well-being of the entire academic community.
Fundación Universitaria María Cano highlighted that this type of strategic alliance reinforces the Institution’s commitment to equity, respect for diversity, and the construction of a culture of peace, while promoting protective and safe university environments.
Through this initiative, the Institution reaffirms its commitment to preventing gender-based violence and to implementing ongoing actions aimed at consolidating educational spaces that serve as models of inclusion, respect, and social transformation.
