Physiotherapy Strengthens Its Role in Return-to-Work Processes within Occupational Health and Safety

Within the framework of academic training and the strengthening of competencies in the field of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Fundación Universitaria María Cano, Popayán campus, held an academic session focused on reflecting on the role of physiotherapists specialized in OHS in return-to-work processes. The event featured the participation of Martín Alonso Ruiz Orozco, a physician with a master’s degree in Occupational Health and a full professor in the Department of Morphology, who led the session with an interdisciplinary approach.

During the session, the strategic role of physiotherapists in collaboration with occupational medicine within the Occupational Health and Safety System was discussed, highlighting their involvement in functional assessment of workers, prevention of occupational risks, rehabilitation processes, and the promotion of safe return-to-work practices.The purpose of this academic activity was to strengthen the understanding of the physiotherapist’s decision-making role in real-world contexts, promoting a comprehensive perspective that contributes to workers’ well-being and the sustainability of work environments.
This activity was carried out within the framework of professional practice, under the guidance of advisor Nasly Soraya Bolaños López, consolidating learning spaces that foster critical thinking, comprehensive training, and interdisciplinary collaboration among future professionals. Through initiatives like this, Fundación Universitaria María Cano reaffirms its commitment to training professionals capable of addressing workplace challenges, contributing from physiotherapy to health care and the quality of life of workers.
