Technological evolution and social changes
- 18 febrero, 2025

At the main lecture hall of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the National University of Colombia, Medellín campus, the director of the Center for Research and Business Development at the María Cano University Foundation, Nelson Rua, delivered a lecture on the topic «Technology, Industrial Revolutions, and their Impact on Social Dynamics» to students from all undergraduate programs at this prestigious university, as part of the elective course «The Production Process in Social Formations.»
The lecture provided a panoramic overview of the most significant scientific and technological milestones throughout history, expressed through theories, scientific discoveries, or disruptive technological innovations. These gave rise to various scientific revolutions and industrial revolutions that have occurred since the Industrial Revolution in England up to the present day. These revolutions, in turn, generated true revolutions in thought with major cultural implications, as well as profound social transformations and changes in production methods. Additionally, they had an impact on the environment, creating new scenarios for political, economic, and military control with global reach.
The lecture focused on the following thematic areas through which the panoramic journey was explored:
- Historical periods of scientific and technological advances that shaped the world and society
- Scientific revolutions
- Industrial revolutions
- Waves (of societal changes throughout history)
- The 21st Century NBIC (Nano-Bio-Info-Cogno) scientific-technological paradigm
In this way, the María Cano University Foundation extends its presence to other higher education institutions, contributing to the education of young university students in the city of Medellín while strengthening interinstitutional academic collaboration.
