Fundación Universitaria María Cano continues to strengthen the education of professionals with a global perspective and the ability to respond to the challenges of an ever-changing business environment. As part of this commitment, 13 students from the Faculty of Business Sciences have begun an Academic Immersion in the Urabá region of Antioquia, an experiential learning initiative developed within the framework of the diploma program “National and International Logistics: Urabá, the New Strategic Hub of the Colombian Caribbean.” This diploma program has been approved as a degree-completion option for María Cano students.

The student delegation is accompanied by María Cristina Osorio Soto, Director of the Public Accounting Program, who is leading this academic experience aimed at strengthening strategic, analytical, and operational competencies in logistics, national and international physical distribution, foreign trade, and supply chain management.

The immersion experience will provide participants with firsthand exposure to the economic, commercial, and logistics dynamics of a region that is rapidly emerging as one of Colombia’s most promising territories for business and trade development. Thanks to its strategic geographic location and the advancement of high-impact infrastructure projects such as Puerto Antioquia, Urabá is positioning itself as a key platform for connecting Colombia with international markets, facilitating access to global maritime routes and enhancing the competitiveness of productive sectors.

Throughout the academic experience, students will interact with economic, business, and logistics stakeholders in the region, analyze national and international distribution processes, and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing one of the country’s most important logistics ecosystems. They will also observe how the modernization of port and transportation infrastructure positively impacts competitiveness, employment generation, and regional development.

The diploma program combines theoretical and practical components and is designed to develop skills related to efficient supply chain management, integrating tools and concepts associated with Logistics 4.0, data analytics, transportation systems, logistics costs, insurance, Incoterms, and sustainability. In this way, participants strengthen essential competencies for decision-making in increasingly dynamic and globalized business environments.

One of the most significant aspects of this experience is the academic visit to Puerto Antioquia and to the region’s main economic and logistics stakeholders, which serves as the integrative component of the diploma program. This opportunity will allow students to understand the real-world operations of one of Colombia’s most important port projects and to analyze its impact on foreign trade, national competitiveness, and the development of new logistics corridors.

Beyond technical learning, this academic immersion represents an opportunity for future professionals to understand how logistics, infrastructure, and international trade function as drivers of economic and social transformation. The experience strengthens the connection between theory and practice, exposing students to real-world scenarios where they can apply the knowledge acquired throughout their university education.
