Fundación Universitaria María Cano continues to strengthen its presence in high-impact scientific environments. On this occasion, Ana Milena Gaviria Gómez, full-time professor in the Psychology Program and leader of the Psique & Sociedad Research Group, participated as co-author of a study published in Vaccine, an international scientific journal published by Elsevier and ranked in the Q1 quartile.

The article, entitled “A cluster-randomized trial of the school-based ‘Superprotegidas’ behavioral intervention to improve HPV vaccination uptake in Colombian girls,” evaluated a behavioral intervention designed to increase vaccination rates against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) among Colombian girls. The findings showed a vaccination rate of 52.4% in the intervention group, compared to 28.6% in the control group, highlighting the potential of this type of strategy to address a major public health challenge.

One of the most significant outcomes associated with this publication is the strengthening of scientific collaborations at both national and international levels. The research was conducted in partnership with Verónica Córdoba Sánchez and Mariantonia Lemos from EAFIT University, as well as Sherri Sheinfeld Gorin from the University of Michigan School of Medicine in the United States.

This collaboration strengthens María Cano’s academic and scientific cooperation networks, expands opportunities for the development of future joint research projects, and enhances the international visibility of the work carried out by the Psychology Program and the Psique & Sociedad Research Group.

Publishing in a Q1 journal, together with the collaborative work developed alongside national and international researchers, represents another important milestone in Ana Milena Gaviria Gómez’s research career. It also contributes to the positioning of Fundación Universitaria María Cano as an institution committed to rigorous, collaborative research connected to global scientific networks.
