Fundación Universitaria María Cano, Neiva campus, continues to promote student well-being and retention through its Te Quiero en la U program. On this occasion, 40 first-semester students participated in a Life Skills Workshop designed to strengthen self-awareness, emotional expression, relationship building, and personal development as key components of their educational journey.

The activity, entitled “Recognizing Our Story, Building Our Present,” took place in a setting outside the traditional academic environment, encouraging personal reflection and meaningful interaction among students. The experience provided an opportunity to share life stories, build trust, and strengthen connections that contribute to successful adaptation and well-being within university life.

One of the most meaningful moments of the workshop involved students sharing childhood photographs, an activity that encouraged reflection on the experiences, lessons, and people who have shaped their personal journeys. Through this exercise, participants explored their identities, personal growth processes, and future aspirations.

Throughout the session, students reflected on guiding questions such as “Where do I come from?”, “Who am I today?”, and “Where do I want to go?”, fostering a deeper understanding of their present circumstances and future goals. These reflections were complemented by team-building, recreational, and collaborative activities that strengthened social, emotional, and communication skills.

Beyond its academic value, the workshop sought to create spaces for listening, recognition, and connection among students, contributing to the development of a university community grounded in respect, empathy, and mutual support. Experiences like this support students’ transition into higher education and strengthen protective factors associated with student retention and success.
