Fundación Universitaria María Cano welcomed representatives from the Local Administrative Board (JAL) of Commune 10 – La Candelaria, the District, Municipal and Local Development Planning Unit, and several departments of the Medellín Mayor’s Office to its Medellín campus as part of a working session focused on the allocation of projects within the Annual Participatory Budgeting Route for the 2027 fiscal year.

The meeting served as a space for dialogue and collaboration among community leaders, public institutions, and local stakeholders, with the aim of advancing the collective development of initiatives that address community needs and priorities while strengthening citizen participation and local development processes.

Through its Vice-Rector’s Office for Extension and Social Outreach, Fundación Universitaria María Cano reaffirms its commitment to creating opportunities that foster interaction between academia, institutions, and communities. Opening the University’s doors for initiatives such as this contributes to strengthening participatory democracy and promoting sustainable territorial development.

The session was led by the JAL of Commune 10 and chaired by Henry Alberto Pérez Bolívar, a graduate of María Cano’s Business Administration program. During the event, he highlighted the importance of having strategic partners committed to community well-being and expressed his gratitude to the Institution for its ongoing willingness to support initiatives that generate social impact across the city.

Pérez Bolívar also reflected on the growth and transformation that Fundación Universitaria María Cano has experienced since his years as a student, recognizing the Institution’s role in educating professionals with leadership skills, social commitment, and a strong vocation for service. His current role as president of the JAL is also an example of the impact María Cano graduates continue to make in public management, citizen participation, and territorial transformation.

Beyond providing a venue for the meeting, the Institution’s involvement reflects its conviction that higher education plays a fundamental role in building more participatory, inclusive, and engaged communities. By facilitating spaces for dialogue and collaborative planning, the University contributes to the development of solutions that respond to the realities and aspirations of local territories.

Through initiatives such as this, Fundación Universitaria María Cano continues to strengthen its contribution to social development, interinstitutional collaboration, and the creation of partnerships that support Medellín’s progress and the well-being of its communities, reaffirming its commitment to an education that is closely connected to society and its needs.
