Hugo Alberto Valencia Porras – Rector

Professional Statistician from the University of Medellin, Master in Business Administration from EAFIT, Master in Marketing Management from Vina del Mar University (Chile), Marketing Specialist, Specialist in Economics and International Business.

He has more than 32 years of professional experience, 20 of them dedicated to Higher Education; since May 2016 he is the Rector of the María Cano University. He has also served as Director of the Montería branch, National Director of Planning, National Director of Self-Evaluation, National Director of Research and Development of Postgraduate Programs at the Cooperativa de Colombia University; Head of the Office of Internal Control, Head of the Planning Office, Administrative and Financial Director, Director of University Welfare, Dean of the Academic Extension Center and Head of the Commercial Department at the Metropolitan Technological Institute – ITM; Teaching statistician of the Research Center of the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Antioquia.

He is an Academic Peer of the Ministry of National Education since 2005 and a professor of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in different Higher Education Institutions since 1996. In the business sector he was a Statistician and Information Systems Analyst in the Production and Exports area of ​​EXPOCARIBE. S.A. UNIBAN Group and Administrative Director of the International Marketing Company BANACOL S.A. Apartadó headquarters. He is part of the Colombian Association of Higher Education Institutions – ACIET, belongs to the Board of Directors of the Higher Education Development Fund – FODESEP, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Higher Education Institutions of Antioquia – ASIESDA, is the representative of Private Higher Education Institutions in the Monitoring Committee of the ICETEX Educational Credit Sustainability Fund in the period 2022 – 2024; He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Colombian Association of Higher Education Institutions with Distance Programs – ACESAD. In addition, he is a Representative of the Technical, Professional, Technological Higher Education Institutions and Public and Private University Institutions at the national level in the OCAD – Collegiate Body of Administration and Decision that evaluates, makes viable, approves and prioritizes the programs and projects that will be financed with resources. of FCTel of the General Royalties System.

Rector Hugo Alberto Valencia Porras is also a Member of the General Assembly of the Cooperative University of Colombia and a Member of the Superior Council of that Institution.

Thanks to the results of his academic and administrative management and demonstrated leadership, he has been elected consecutively in the years 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024.

Luisa Fernanda Álvarez Rodríguez – Academic Vice Chancellor

Psychologist from the Pontifical Bolivarian University, Specialist in Management and Human Talent Management from the same university, and Master in Organizational Management from the Cooperative University of Colombia, with extensive knowledge in organizational behavior.

She has 23 years of experience in the business sector, contributing to various human talent management processes, and 20 years of involvement in higher education. She has served as an undergraduate and graduate professor in both in-person and virtual modalities, internship advisor, Psychology Program Director for ten years, Academic Deputy Director, and Acting Director of the Medellín campus.

She has participated in the creation of new on-campus and online programs, supported program accreditations and institutional accreditation. She is an active member of various academic networks and associations.

Paola Rueda López – Extension and Social Projection Vice-Rector

She has been a director, journalist, and presenter on various TV and radio programs; she has also worked as an opinion columnist for the ADN newspaper, owned by the El Tiempo publishing house. She has received awards such as the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award, Women to Watch Colombia 2022, Distinguished Mention «Merit in Social Innovation,» Medellín Council Journalism Award, 2022, Best Presenter Award – GAE, CIPA Award for Excellence in the economic journalism category, and has been recognized as a Journalist with Human and Professional Quality by the Medellín City Council and the University of San Buenaventura. She also received the Club de la Prensa journalism award, Digital Media category.
She supports organizations in Change Management and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). She has served as a Strategic Communications Consultant for Grupo Sura, Bancolombia, Protección, among others. From 2017 to 2022, she served as honorary president of the Avon Foundation for the Andean Cluster (Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador).

Elkin Antonio Restrepo Escobar – Administrative and Financial Vice-Rector

Public accountant from the University of Medellín, Specialist in Financial Management from the Gran Colombiano Polytechnic, Master in Education-university teaching from the UNAP University of Chile.

With more than 15 years of involvement in higher education, he has worked as an undergraduate and graduate teacher in face-to-face and virtual modality, program director, director of the accounting and financial network, deputy academic director and social projection. He has experience as a public accountant for 25 years, auditor and tax auditor, in project analysis and in financial and tax matters in recognized companies in the city. He has served as Financial and Accounting Director at the María Cano University Foundation.
